The Book

Yvette C Schneider

Never Not Broken is the story of Yvette Cantu Schneider, a woman suffering from crippling anxiety who descends into the abyss of her own psyche where her sense of identity and trenchant religious beliefs are shaken by spirit guides who help heal her wounds and show her who she truly is.

Learning that her young daughter has leukemia, the vague anxiety that had plagued Cantu Schneider for several years erupts into ceaseless panic. Desperate for relief, she sees a psychotherapist who introduces her to guided imagery meditation to heal trauma. Over the course of her daughter’s 28-month treatment, Cantu Schneider encounters in meditation, animals, goddesses and other guides who show her that it is the wounded feminine within her that pushed her to find meaning and acceptance in a rigid religious structure and to become a spokesperson for controversial socio-political causes.

As Cantu Schneider struggles to heal from difficult events from her childhood, the abuses and hypocrisies of religious leaders, and the effects of her own denial of the feminine divine, she discovers her true self. In the end, she finds that life’s healing power is that we are all never not broken.

“With astonishing candor, modern day Persephone Yvette Schneider is our compelling tour guide through the hell of mothering a young child battling cancer while navigating the murky waters of religious fundamentalism and sexual politics. Ms. Schneider beckons us down with a primal urgency into a dreamscape where drawing and active imagination offer healing, redemption, and a deep gratitude that becomes our own.”

– Sharon Heath, Jungian Analyst and author of The History of My Body

“Yvette Schneider’s book is not for the faint-hearted or those seeking easy answers. It is a soul-baring voyage of a woman’s life through some of the most gut-wrenching events one can go through, and still survive. Garcia-Lorca, the Spanish poet had a word for it: duende, which he defines as ‘a power, not a work; it is a struggle, not a thought.’ For those who are consciously on the journey of their lives, this book can provide a beacon, and perhaps some answers about getting through just those things that don’t seem survivable. A marvelous, readable guide for all of us through our own journeys.”

-Maggy Anthony, author of Jung’s Circle of Women: The Valkyries

“The transformational potential of this remarkable book is limitless, equaled only by the depth of Yvette Cantu Schneider’s courage, compassion and wisdom. There is evidence of the passion and purity that is born when the Divine Feminine is birthed.”
